Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has indicated that Apple is currently working on two new Apple Vision Pro headsets, with the M5 version anticipated to launch by the end of 2025. Recent speculation suggested that a lighter version of the headset could be released in early 2026.
However, Kuo contests this notion, asserting that no new headsets will debut in 2026. Instead, he expects a series of releases beginning in 2027.
In a recent blog post, Kuo outlined Apple’s timeline for upcoming headsets. He mentions that five different models, including both the Apple Vision Pro and various smart glasses, have confirmed release dates, while two remain uncertain.
The M5 edition is projected to enter mass production in the third quarter of 2025. The next generation of the Apple Vision Pro is expected in the second half of 2028.
Kuo also detailed the development of Ray-Ban-like smart glasses, which he anticipates will be released by the end of 2028. He indicates that five devices have either confirmed launch dates or windows.
The new Apple Vision Air is described as having a different form factor and will utilize an iPhone A-series processor, with a significantly lower price point compared to the current headset. In terms of projected sales, Kuo reports expected shipments of the M5 edition of the Apple Vision Pro will range between 150,000 to 200,000 units across 2027.
He characterizes the product as a niche offering, asserting that its purpose is not only to maintain Apple’s presence in the market but also to potentially stimulate growth in the ecosystem and reduce component inventory. While Kuo’s recent track record has been less reliable, he has a history of accurate predictions and his specific claims should be noted.
