Mac Shipments Surge Ahead of PC Market Despite Tariff Challenges

Apple’s Mac shipments are reportedly growing at a faster pace than the overall PC market, as retailers brace for upcoming tariff costs. According to a recent IDC report, global PC shipments rose by 6.5 percent year-over-year in the second quarter of 2025, totaling 68.4 million shipments. While most major PC manufacturers experienced growth, Apple outperformed them all, ranking fourth among the top five PC vendors with 6.2 million shipments during this quarter, translating to a 9.1% market share. In comparison, Apple recorded 5.1 million Mac shipments in Q2 2024, which represented an 8% market share at that time.

This year-over-year growth shows a significant increase of 21.4% for Apple. Among the top five companies, Apple exhibited the largest improvement, while Lenovo, which took the lead, experienced a 15.2% growth. HP and Asus followed with modest gains of 3.2% and 16.7%, respectively. Notably, Dell was the only top vendor to see a decline, with a shipment decrease of 3%.

This positive trend for Apple follows a strong rebound in the first quarter, where Mac shipments rose by 14.1% year-over-year. However, it is important to note that these figures pertain to product shipments, not direct consumer sales. Shipments often include deliveries made to retailers that are stocking up their inventory. Complicating the market landscape are impending tariff changes in the U.S.

Under President Trump’s administration, letters have been sent to world leaders regarding a potential increase in tariffs. Countries affected by these changes are those where Apple assembles its products before shipping them to the U.S. Industry experts predict a cooling of U.S. market demand in Q3 due to inventory buildup and anticipated tariff deadlines.
